I haven't had a photo session since the shutdown and I'm sort of itching to get at it again. I did receive a letter from the state that I can operate as of April 28. More information is in another blog post HERE. Even though I got that letter then, I've just held onto it. Currently, I am talking to clients about outdoor sessions only. If you know me well enough, you know I'm slightly neurotic and a bit of a germaphobe anyway. Most of my photo sessions take place at public locations and it appears many of them have been closed and even when they re-open I'm unsure if photo sessions will be frowned upon. However, I did not receive any subsidy/loan and my overhead is still due. I would love to not loose my studio and the job I love.
With that being said, I have been working on the back end of my website. I have got gift certificate's up and e-gift cards ready for purchase! These can be purchased for later use. Be on the look out because I am thinking really hard about putting them on sale. Get my newsletter to stay up to date on that if you are interested.
I've also been working on getting Fine Art Prints up, too. I've got a handful up. More are coming. Check them out and maybe place your order!
I wanted to update this post with my operations. Simply Bliss Studio is currently closed. I haven't had many inquires since the original posting, but I have had one inquiry since the Governor issued the stay at home order on 3-30-2020. Basically, I'll be ready to work on May 1, pending a stay-at-home extension. I've been doing my part to stay home and not go out. I personally suffer from asthma and take a daily medication for it. So, I would really prefer to not contract the coronavirus. I also work with many families and children and I would feel horrible if I somehow was a carrier and unaffected by the virus (but could pass it to someone else). So, it's best to stay at home during this time - for everyone.
However, at this time, we can:
Put down a deposit for a future photo shoot. I'm always flexible with dates & this would be a credit to you, if the stay at home was extended.
Plan future photoshoots with clients; we can discuss everything right down to posing, groupings, outfits, and backgrounds. All you gotta do is round up your crew and show up. This is the time of the year for outdoor photoshoots!
Buy gift certificates for future use. I can snail-mail this to you. It makes a great gift, especially a great gifts for new parents!
if you have a business and need images for your website or social media- such as products, lay flats, etc... please reach out! I would love to chat with you.
If you are interested in my "how to use my camera" class or to purchase Art for print for your home, please contact me and we can talk more. I've just added to this post to make it easy for reference. Thanks so much. It's hard for everyone right now.
Simply Bliss Studio is currently open for business. On any given day, you may not always find me physically in the studio and sometimes I am also there when the signage is still showing "closed". I do all my editing from a remote office as well as meet and photograph clients on-location. I'll also keep the signage to "closed" during photoshoots or even meeting with clients, so we will not be disturbed. If you are walking by, knock on the door or jiggle the door knob if you'd like to chat, it's possible I'm in. But, I've been spending even more time at home during this Coronavirus pandemic and playing my part in practicing safe social distancing.
However, studio is techincally OPEN and I am booking (even months out) as well as taking appointments. During a routine week I meet with roughly 3-5 clients, so I've not had to worry about the studio being a harbor for germs. I regularly disinfect and clean between clients and even more now. However, during this Coronavirus pandemic I've had even fewer inquiries and virtually no meetings in the studio. I am starting to worry about the vitality of my business.
Safe social distancing strategies can be observed during most portrait sessions. I have a bathroom available for hand washing. In addition, we can also meet on-location, outdoors (families or groups). I do not plan on meeting clients if I am showing any symptoms of illness, including or not limited to; cough, fever, chills, etc. I would want my clients to take the very same precautions.
I know someone is thinking, "who is thinking about portraits right now?"... Well, for some, this time will pass and they may want to still capture these moments, now: birthdays, engagements, and senior sessions... Important milestones that we still want to document and maybe not even right this minute, but weeks from now (at this moment, I don't know how long we will live like this). Others may be in the market for branding images or headshots between working from home. I've come up with a few creative ways that I can offer my services to those that may be interested. Do you have a business and need photographs for your website, photos of your products, images for social media? Please don't hesitate reaching out I can offer a flat or hourly rate that includes images in various formats without a watermark (images with or without people).
First, as mentioned before, I generally maintain a several foot distance from my clients while conducting both portrait sessions and proofing appointments. The lenses I use on my camera require me to be several feet (6-10ft) away from my subject and I also pose and direct from where wherever I'm standing. Also, I will not be photographing families or small groups in the studio at this time, only outdoors on-location only. Since we would be meeting one-on-one during this time, I ask that you limit bringing extra people with you, than are absolutely necessary.
Are you possibly interested but have some budget restrictions? I have a handful of ways that I already utilize with my clients to work around their budgets that include breaking up payments, breaking up orders into portions, and delaying print orders. If you talk with me about your budget we can discuss all the possibilities to make your portrait session easiest on you.
Gift certificate's are also available for purchase. Gift certificates take 24-48 hours to turn around because each one is unique and lovingly created in photoshop. I do not have any pre-printed gift certificates. Gift certificates can be customized with the giver and receivers information as well as a special message. If it is a special occasion, I can possibly theme the card for your specific occasion. If you'd like it mailed directly, that can be done as well. Gift certificates can be purchased in a specific dollar amount.
My next post will include a special that can be booked now, later, or purchased as a gift certificate. It will be on special for a limited time. So, if you have been interested in a session, this special could be what you've been waiting for. Save it for Christmas, an anniversary, or gift it to a newly engaged couple. I'm working on the graphic and a write up now. If you have any interest in booking, contact me and I will send you the special information directly along with all my pricing.
I am working on pulling out more images for print. Once upon a time I sold prints and I will look into doing that again. I have a handful of images up through my portfolio, but I haven't advertised it in years. If you are interested in purchasing any Art for print, please let me know. I will look into setting up an ecommerce section of my website or re-loading my etsy site.
Lastly, I've tossed the idea of hosting a photography/how to use your camera workshop via video conference or even a video series. I had a TON of suggestions on this in some Facebook groups. I have already had the slides written up and it's prepared via-google drive and I've decided to break it down in to 2 parts (so it's not so heavy). As well as making a kid friendly version. I've only taught this in person and not taught via-video conference or know how to create video course (My video editing skills are sub-par, but I can do it!), so I have a lot of research to do. And once we are past the virus pandemic, we can meet in person to practice shooting for an hour or two (or whatever is needed) for those that are local to the studio and would like more hands on assistance. If you would be interested in taking this course or if you have any knowledge you'd like to share on how to create a video series/market/distribute it or a group video conference like this, please email me. I appreciate it more than you know.
That's it. I've been struggling with this blog post all week. I've been back and forth on posting it and how to post it and how to even write it. It's been revised countless times. But it's so hard to sit by the wayside and not do anything or try to keep my business floating during this time. I've been so anxious and like you, I can not wait for everything to return to normalcy. Even of you are unable to purchase now, it would mean the world to me that you interact with my social media posts and even share them. The graphic above is brilliant and I've shared her graphics before. Thanks Adria Adams Co for taking the time to create this, it's great! And thank you for your support and reading such a long post!
The 2 right images at the top of this post are stock. The open sign is my own image and is watermarked.
